- Who are you?
My name is Joyce Jefferson and I’m a full-time student at the University of Central Florida. If you would like to know more about me, click here. - What services do you offer?
I offer all sorts of services from writing, to editing to web and social media development. I also do many offline services such as promotions for event planning. - When are you available?
You’ll have to check the contact page to find out if there are any openings. In addition to this, I will also post status updates on my social media accounts. Even if I am booked, you can send me an e-mail and ask me questions. - How many projects do you work on at a time?
Usually 2-3 depending on the depth of the project. - When will you be able to start my project? How long will it take?
As soon as I can. Each client is on a timeline and clients come on a first come, first serve basis. Web projects take longer. Each segment will be possibly on a 2 to 3 week basis, and some processes may take longer (example, the design process may take up to 4-6 weeks depending). I like having breaks in between days due to me or my client having scheduling conflicts, unfortunate circumstances, and other delayed occurrences. *Note: These are just estimates of the time frame of the project, and times are subjected to change.* - How much will my project cost?
Every new project is different. It depends on the timeline and what I will be doing. Therefore, prices may vary. I hope to have an exact price list soon. - Do I need to pay upfront?
Again, I’m still sorting out the prices, but usually the payment will be upfront for the time being. Prices can be negotiated. - How will we communicate?
I firmly believe that communication is KEY when working on web projects. I always keep my line of communication open. If I had to choose a specific time frame, it would probably be from 9 AM to 11 PM M-F. I'm always connected to my phone, which I have access to my social media profiles, e-mail accounts, as well as a text messaging system (and I use three different kinds - regular SMS, GroupMe, and WhatsApp). Face-to-face meetings can be arranged, and they will definitely be used throughout the stages of development and progression. I'm opened to using video platforms like Skype and Google Hangout as well. I would usually set out two days out of the week to correspond with my client (say Tuesdays and Thursdays) in the first few stages of each project, but as time goes on, that can be changed to once a week, or can be flexible since my contact line is open. - What is your concept when working on projects?
- For web development I have a My 5-Step Web Development Process. A sample is below:
• Planning Phase – The planning phase is where the client and I have a discussion and brainstorm on the ideas of the website. Copyrights and legalities, software that will be used, tools that are needed, the platform that will be used (example Wordpress), website hosting (will it be self-hosted or free), different terminologies (if asked), and other topics. Again, there will be a discussion on the can/cannot do’s. Budgeting and costs will also be a topic.
• Design Phase – Once the Planning Phase is discussed, we will talk about the design. Will we use a pre-made layout? Will we have a custom-made design? If we have to use a custom-made design, how much will it cost? Do we have enough time to create one?
• Development Phase – After the design in set into place, we will start talking about, as well as creating the content. This includes the website’s pages, contact information, statistics and analytics, blog posts, as well as usability testing across different web browsers and mobile phones. This the stage where the client and I will be working diligently together.
• Launch – This is where the website will launch and where the promotional campaign begins.
• Post-Launch/Evaluation – This is where the whole project comes together. We find out what works, what doesn’t work and continue to build and work on the project for better results.
- For Social Media Projects, I have a 3-Step Social Media Campaign Process:
• Planning/Set-Up – The planning process is simple. Which social media platforms will work best with what you are trying to accomplish with promoting your ministry? Will you use the most popular? How many will be used? Which platforms do your audience use the most? What will you name your accounts (it’s best to be consistent with the names)?
• Design – Next, will be the design choices, which includes colors, logos, and images that will be used.
• Promotion – Last, is the promotional part of the campaign where you start posting information about the ministry and website across the social media platforms that were chosen. - Do you do graphics?
Unfortunately, I do not do graphics. BUT I am learning. :) - Are there any other costs are involved with the design?
It depends on what you want. If you want to start out on free sites, then the prices are much lower. However, if you want to do a much more in depth project, prices may vary. You have to factor in web hosting, a domain name, creating a custom design or purchasing a theme. - I already have a website set in place, can you help me?
Design wise, I can't help much with that unless it's coding. Content wise, send me an e-mail and we'll see what I can do. - What platforms do you work on?
I usually work with Wordpress (free and self-hosted), and sometimes Blogger. I can also work with free sites. - Do you only work with clients in the US?
Nope, I work with anyone who needs help with starting a new project, or with their existing projects. *NOTE: I only write and do projects in English.* - How can I contact you?
There are many ways you can contact me. Twitter (@ASouthernWriter) and e-mail: [email protected]. Twitter is best for a quicker response. - I sent you an e-mail, and no response. Are you ignoring me?
No, I'm not. I usually respond quickly as I check my e-mail throughout the day. If not, please allow up to 2 business days. I also busy with school and in my personal life. However, I will not respond if it's SPAM, soliciting, or harassment. My first language is English and I speak a bit of Spanish, and if I can’t understand you, I will ask you to respond with more clarity. If not, I may not be able to help you. - I have a website. Can I get some advice/help/suggestions from you?
Yes, you can ask me depending on what it’s about. I'm not a professional making graphics (still learning). Anything related to HTML, CSS, or Internet/web design resources, social media platforms, ideas for your page, advertising, etc… I could probably help you. - What web host and domain name company would you recommend?
I've been using HostGator.com as my web host for over 6 years and I've been on the same plan for that long. They offer great plans at very low prices. I get unlimited bandwidth + lots of other cool perks. You can purchase domains through HostGator, however, I have my domains separate from my host, and they are hosted at NameCheap.com. This company also provides hosting. With both, I have been satisfied thus far. No issues, and tech support is awesome! - Have you ever taken web design classes?
I have been into computers since I was about 12 or 13. The Internet was pretty new then (yes, I’m old!), and I quickly discovered web design by visiting websites on boybands and wrestling. Since 2001, I had a few pages and groups online. For the majority of the time, I was self-taught as I had many set backs for advancing my skills. I was able to take 3 years of web design in high school, and some courses in college. I'm still learning each day, as it is sometimes hard to keep up with the technologies as they continue to increase.
